Interview with PRANCING PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE
June 24thth, 2009
Hosted by: Madi, The Cat
Kritters That Twitter

MADI: Hello, and thanks for meeting me at the Kritter Koffeehouse. I am very excited to be speaking with you today and greatly appreciate your time. Before we get started, I just want to point out that just like everything associated with the Kritter Kommunity, Kritters That Twitter is specifically designed for Animals and Animal Lovers. The Kritter Koffeehouse is open daily and serves beverages and snacks for both Animals and Hoomans. That being said, I see you are a Hooman…..could I offer you a coffee, tea, water?

PRANCING PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE:
Hi Madi! I am so happy to meet with you too! I am very much a Hooman, but I am ok, no need for a drink! Thank you anyway!

MADI: Lets jump in and get started; we are eager to learn more about you and your rescue! We love Philadelphia, but know there is a big problem with stray kitties….Tell us about your organization.

PRANCING PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE:  Prancing Paws is a not for profit no kill stray cat and feral kitten rescue. We focus on cats that are on the street first, as our rescue feels that they are the most in danger. If our rescue has room we pull from local kill shelters and accept owner surrenders. We spay/neuter, test for FIV/FeLV, vaccinate, flea treat and deworm each cat and kitten before they are adopted out. We also work with low income persons who cannot afford to spay/neuter their cats and kittens. We have also partnered with a dog rescue to give us both more publicity, Wet Nose Rescue. They are a great no kill dog and puppy rescue, they rescue dogs from South Carolina.

MADI: When did you start Prancing Paws?

PRANCING PAWS:  March 2009, but we have always opened our homes to strays way before we were ever a rescue.

MADI:  What inspired you to start Prancing Paws?

PRANCING PAWS:  I know this sounds harsh, but the utter lack of humanity in humans. I see suffering cats and kittens everyday. I don’t mean suffering as a cold or broken limb, I mean suffering as in dying. How could I not do anything?

MADI: How many kitties have you found forever homes for? I don’t really know since we have placed cats before our rescue status, but I would say we have had about 2 adoptions per week since March 2009. So I would say roughly 24 cats.

PRANCING PAWS:  Our best story is a family who adopted 3 beautiful black Bombay sisters together, who our rescue took from a local kill shelter before they where euthanized. These sisters now have their forever home, and they have it together! I was so happy about this I cried.

MADI: Awww, *sniffs* I is crying too….. here you go *hands Amanda a box of tissues* okay,  sorry that was sad, with a very happy ending….. let’s do continue……Who are some of your Sponsors?

PRANCING PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE:  Sears Outlet Stores, Monster Pets

MADI: Your organization sounds PAWESOME; thank you for helping so many Kitty Kats!!!! NOSETAPS to you!  What a great cause and the animals all sound adorable; what can people do to help them find a furever home?

PRANCING PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE:
Thank you so much Madi, and thank you for your wonderful question! We try so hard to help these cats! The biggest thing people can do to help is offer their homes as a temporary foster home. The more foster homes we have, the more cats we can save, the more cats that are able to be adopted and not on the street.

MADI: Prancing Paws is obviously an important cause, what can people and other animals do to help?

PRANCING PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE:
Just spay or neuter their pets. I don’t think people realize the importance of it. I receive so many stoires at adoption events how a cat they own or have owned has had so many litters and cute kittens. I had one woman tell me about her 16 year old cat recently giving birth. These stories always really upset me.

MADI: Many Kwitters (Kritters that Twitter) are going to want to stay in touch with your organization. Do you have a Blog, website, are you on Twitter? Can they email you?

PRANCING PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE:
They are more than welcome to email me at pparcats@gmail.com, or pparadoptions@gmail.com. Our official web site is http://ppar.rescuegroups.org, and we are on petfinder as well. Our donation list and adoption information is located on the web site.

MADI: Thank you so much for your time today! We have enjoyed learning more about you and Prancing Paws of Philadelphia…… it is truly an amazing organization!  We hope to see you again soon at the Kritter Koffeehouse; thank you so much for all you do!!!

  3. What a great cause! It’s great to see an interview from the Kritter Kondo team on such an important topic, and there was some great info on spay/neuter pets that is an important reminder. I look forward to more quality interviews like this!

  4. Manxington says:

Cheers to you for doing something about this horrible problem. I think my jaw dropped when I read a 16 year old cat gave birth. That poor cat! And the little one in the sweater is adorable! I wish you much success in your new recue, and thank you for your efforts to help cats find their forever home.

  5. Phyl says:

Great idea! I’m leaving this comment on behalf of my own feral rescues, Peaches and Pan, who’ve been with me now for 7 1/2 years.

  6. MizzBassie says:

I’m a rescue kitty myself, as are all my housemates and I am SO grateful to Prancing Paws for doing this for all cats. Purrrrrrs to you.

  7. You do such great work (and in my old hometown area!)!! My dog is a rescue and, for me, that’s the only way to go. I know cats have a tougher time than most – there are just so many who need homes!

Godspeed and good luck with all you do.

  8. ShawneeShep says:

Great interview! If everybody would spay and neuter to stop littering, there wouldn’t be all this suffering.

  9. You are doing such great work!! Thank you so much for helping out the kitties in your community… the world is a better place because of you.

If there were more compassionate people like you there would no longer be such suffering in this world, and the kitty and puppy mills would finally be out of bussiness!!!

  31. Lisa says:

    Hope this helps!!!

  32. luz says:

The picture is so cute, I had no idea clothes was now made for cats :)

  33. Sonya F says:

Rescue is a wonderful thing. I once rescued a golden retriever mother and her entire litter. I had to purchase each and everyone of them then bring them home to de-worm their worm riddled bodies, give them shots, socialize them and find them all proper homes. The mother was so good to her puppies that she had regurgitated any food she received in order to feed her babies. The mother was skin and bones but when she was back to full health, she was then spayed and a home was found for her. It cost a small fortune but it came with a reward in my heart that will last my lifetime.

Thank you to all who contribute to rescues: donate blankets, toys, supplies, your time, your home or money, every little bit helps!

  34. T.J. says:
