Slow Moving Sloths Sweep the Internet
Two definitions come to mind with the word sloth. One is of laziness, considered in the Bible as a deadly sin. The other is a slow moving tropical mammal found in South America. The words both have a sluggish connotation and represent a less then hectic lifestyle. The leaf eating mammal sloth has really made a splash on the internet. I recently posted a video of a sloth and asked for your opinion; cute or creepy? Most tweeted, left comments and emailed me: cute. I think this second video of a baby sloth sticking his tongue out at us and giving us a big yawn could support the ‘cute’ majority vote. What do you think?

- Diet consists mostly of branches, leaves and twigs
- Hang upside down
- Digestive process can take a month or longer
- Short flat heads and big eyes
- Claws are their protectors (like kitty cats!)
- Move only when they have to (MOL like kitty cats!)
- Sleep between 10 and 18 hours a day (MOL like kitty cats!)
- Three toes (like kitty cats!)
- Come out of the trees to go to the potty on the ground
- Sloths are members of a group of mammals that appeared over 60 million years ago
Sloths and kitty cats have some characteristics in common, so I am not surprised the sloth is popular on the internet. But without a doubt, the kitty cat still rules cyberspace. It would be cool to do an infographic comparing a sloth to a cat.
