Great Lakes Cat Furniture is sponsoring today’s contest with a $50.00 Gift Card

The Spider Flower

It is my pleasure to introduce you to our next sponsoring store.  I had the pleasure of meeting Inventor and owner of Great Lakes Cat Furniture over a year ago at a Cat Show in Florida.  Mr. Tom Kartes and I both have a passion for creative cat products and immediately started chatting it up about how we could work together.  I am honored to have his very unique, high quality products in my Contest and introduce his innovative cat beds, cat trees and cat towers to my Social Media friends and followers.

What is most appealing to me about Great Lakes Cat Furniture’s product portfolio are the colors and the attention to detail.  Check out this gallery of cat tree furniture below.  You will understand what I mean instantly!

My two absolute favorite are Tropical Flower and Fantasia.  What is Fantasia you ask?  You need to go find out and tell me what you think :<)  hey, one more thing…. while you are on their site, do sign up for their newsletter.   It comes about once a month and includes Cat Horoscopes!!!  So fun.

BEST ONLINE PETS SUPPLY

Kicking off the Flury of Furry Fun is a store that caters to both kitties and doggies, offering you a full suite of  amazing pet supplies. Best Online Pets Supply has so many cool pet products, it is impossible to leave the site without your shopping cart completely full.   Let’s begin with cat supplies and all the feline products in this category.  Best Online Pets Supply store has books, carriers, beds, cages…. well there is just way too many categories and items to list!  It is a purrrrfect selection of feline favorites; if you are a cat lover, you will love their cat section.  My favorite cat product in this category is of course the Kritter Kondo (MOL!) but second in line is the 3 Bowl U Shaped Cat Diner.  It would be purrfect for us because Madison would have his food on the left, Abigail on the right and their shared water in the middle!

This is on Madison and Abigail’s holiday list!

After checking out the kitty products, don’t forget to head over to the dog supplies section and see what wonderful gems you can get while you are browsing!  One of my most favorite must haves from this section is the indoor / outdoor bed they offer by Imperial.  I like it so much because the medium sized black and white one would fit nicely in our Kritter Kondo and match so well with our outdoor patio furniture.  Look how stunning!

One of the things I love the most about Best Online Pets Supply store is the portfolio of products that are people friendly too!  They have jewelry (pet friendly of course:<) and clothes that really show off your love for animals.  Crystal paw earrings are so cute, and just the pet friendly accessory to wear to the upcoming Furball you might be attending.

Okay, now it’s your turn!  Head on over to the store and find at least one item (but don’t be shy, list a few if you have been especially good this year) you would LOVE to have if you won the $25.00 Gift Card.  At 7:00PM EST comments will be CLOSED and one random lucky name will be the winner.  The gift card will be emailed to you so you MUST include your EMAIL ADDRESS in the comments.  Let’s review that so you don’t miss out.

Contests and Giveaways via Twitter

Wow, have you seen all the contests and giveaways that take place on any given day via blogging?  A new trend that seems to be growing and growing; and with good reason.  What a great way to get a product or service out to a huge amount of people and pets in a short amount of time.  Rarely do we have time to participate outside of doing some gracious re-tweets, but this product did stop our purrs in their track.  It is worth blogging about….

Vacuum Cleaners are NOT a favorite at Kritter Kommunity.  I  do not like to push them and carrying them from room to room, Madison doesn’t like the idea of getting his tail sucked up and Abigail hates being woken up by the noisy rambling of the dreaded machine that seems to chase her around the house.  We avoid vacuums at all costs, however, being covered in a blanket of cat hair has it’s drawbacks too…..  that is why this particular contest over at Blommi’s really stopped us in our tracks.  Check out this vacuum cleaner!  It is feather like at a whopping 13lbs and super duper quiet!  Below is additional information for your review.  Leave me a comment, what do you think?

Wish me luck, maybe Kritter Kommunity will win the vacuum cleaner and start some spring cleaning early this year.

Oreck’s latest vacuum is called the Edge, and I am pleased to be able to present both a review and giveaway of this great new vacuum model,  to you.  The Edge, is the most powerful upright vacuum that Oreck has ever made. It is also their quietest, and only weighs 13 pounds!

Convenient

If you have never had an Oreck before, it may seem odd that you get a sort of two for one deal when you buy an Oreck upright. The Oreck Edge,  like most Oreck uprights, also comes delivered with a portable handheld unit, which is great for those jobs that an upright vacuum is too simply cumbersome to effectively do.  It is perfect for stairs or vacuuming your car.  Keep in mind though, that the Edge’s upright unit, does have on-board wand for getting tight corners, or any other jobs you don’t want to pull the portable unit out for.  The units were quick and easy to assemble.  I had the upright up and running in about two minutes.

oreck edge portable vacuum

Attractive

The first thing that struck me about the vacuum, was how attractive it was.  The bronze color of the  fabric bag and base areas, is neutral and would blend in well with most decor.  The stainless steel handle is also very current in styling.  Great  for those moments when you didn’t get around to putting the vacuum away, and company pops in.

Quiet

When they said the Edge was a quiet vacuum, they weren’t kidding.   It is far quieter than any full power vacuum I have ever used.  While most would agree that quieter is better, such a quiet vacuum, is especially good for parents of young children, families with members who work evening shifts, and apartment dwellers.

Powerful

The Oreck Edge is so quiet and lightweight, that I didn’t really realize how much suction power it had at first.  The power almost seemed out of place, but it is indeed there.

More Great Features

oreck edge carpet to tile

  • Easily accessible variable speed control is right on the handle.
  • Self-propelled.  Even though this vacuum is already light, this makes it an even easier to handle.  (excellent for elderly or disabled family members)
  • The Versa-Glide™ true floating head, makes transitioning from one surface to another virtually seamless.
  • The advanced HEPA filtration system traps up to 99.9% of all dust, allergens, and particles.
  • Feature’s Orecks new long-lasting Endurolife™ Belt.
  • Comes with the Oreck 10-year limited warranty and 10 free annual tune-ups.

As I am sure you can already tell, I like this vacuum quite a lot.  The only thing I would change about it is the way you have to step on the top of the base to unlock it from the upright position.  I would hate to scuff my pretty vacuum up.  That is really about the only thing I would change, and it is minor. Overall this is a great vacuum, with impressive features, which can handle just about any cleaning chore you could throw at it, with style.

The Oreck Edge can be purchased from the Oreck website, or at Oreck dealers nationwide.

Thanks for reading!

Plants that are dangerous for your Cat

PLANTS THAT ARE DANGEROUS TO CATS

Submitted by Madison, the Cat….. because it matters

Plants can add a nice touch to any décor, but if you have cats, that plant could be hazardous to your cat.

Most cats are picky eaters and are careful what they put in their mouth.  A case of cat poisoning is generally rare, but happens nevertheless.  Kittens, young cats, and especially Indoor cats are at risk the most – they may munch on houseplants because they are either bored or curious.  When a cat stays in a specific area (apartment, house, etc), or lives indoors, hazardous plants should be removed that area.  Cats that are able to venture outside tend to avoid unfamiliar vegetation, but even they can accidentally ingest needles or seeds during grooming that may have become caught in their coat.  Many cats enjoy eating grass, plus it helps with their digestion, so grass is safe.

There are many plants that can be poisonous to cats, and their effects can vary.  It’s more likely that a plant will cause skin irritation than to poison your cat, but in some cases, eating enough of a plant that would normally be an irritant can lead to poisoning.  Touching the leaves, stems or sap of certain plants can cause rashes and hypersensitivity to sunlight (which may lead to sunburn).  These plants can also cause blistering or itching of the mouth and gums, sneezing and eye problems.  Also keep in mind that by eating plants, your cat may also be exposed to chemicals that are contained in pesticides, fertilizers and the soil used for the plant.

If you suspect your cat may have ingested a hazardous plant, check your cat for these symptoms: drooling, diarrhea, repeated vomiting, , abdominal pain, a sudden collapse, excessive irritation (red, swollen, blistering or raw) of the skin, the mouth or throat.

If your cat shows signs of poisoning, you see your cat eat something that you suspect to be poisonous, don’t attempt to make it vomit.  Take your cat to the vet IMMEDIATELY with a sample of the plant (or even better a plant label).  Make a note of the time your cat ate the plant, and any symptoms you have observed.

Please note that Lilies are DEADLY to cats!  This includes: Tiger Lily, Easter Lily, Japanese Show Lily, Oriental Lily, Stargazer Lily, Lily of the Valley, and floral lilies.  Eating any part of a lily will cause irreversible kidney failure within 36 to 72 hours.  Take your cat to your vet IMMEDIATELY if you suspect that he ate any part of a lily.  When a cat starts showing signs of poisoning, it is often too late to save him.

Coyotes Attacking Pets are on the Rise

COYOTE

KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE!

Coyotes attacking cats and small dogs, and now people is becoming increasingly more frequent.  Below is some information to help you and your pets protect yourself against coyotes.

  • Keep pets indoors at dusk and dawn.  Dusk and dawn are the two times during the day coyotes roam the most
  • Get an outdoor pet enclosure to keep your pet from roaming or running away.  Never leave your pet alone in the enclosure, but use it as a way to make sure your pet does not run away and into the wild.
  • Feed your pets indoors.  Or if you feed them outdoors do so during the day and never leave pet food out at night. (food attracts other rodents, small animals and varmints which in turn attracts coyotes)
  • Make sure trash is not left outside in bags and that all trash cans have secure lids with locking mechanisms.  Secure the cans to a fence or wall with rope or elastic cord so the trash cannot be tipped over
  • Install motion sensitive lights in your back yard and around your house.
  • Don’t leave fruit, berries or compost on the ground or uncovered.
  • Don’t overflow birdfeeders. Hang them high or in areas that are not accessible to coyotes.
  • NEVER feed coyotes.
  • You can install one or more 7 foot or higher posts with a platform at the top for cats to use as an escape from coyotes.  The posts need to be made of a material that the cats can climb.  When being chased by a predator a cat can climb the post and sit on the platform until it is safe to decend and the coyote is gone.
  • Clear brush and vegetation to remove habitat for small animals that may attract coyotes and to remove areas where coyotes can hide while stalking their prey.
  • Always keep pets on a leash when walking in parks, forest areas or in residential areas.

Most recently, 4 roaming cats were killed by coyotes in a quiet Florida neighborhood.  Shortly after this attack, 3 cats were taken by coyotes in Massachusetts.  Coyotes have recently been spotted roaming New York’s Central Park.  A Chihuahua puppy in Colorado was taken by coyotes only to be saved by a neighbor’s pit bull.  And who can forget Daisy, Jessica Simpson’s 5 year old maltipoo that was snatched by a coyote right in front of her eyes.

Our precious cats and dogs long to be outdoors, at least part of the time.  Kritter Kommunity Kondos are the purr-fect solution.  Designed for use anywhere outdoors including courtyards, balconies, campgrounds, beaches, hotels, parks and front or backyards, Kritter Kondos measure 2 feet tall by 2.5 feet wide by 5.5 feet long and will keep your pet safely enclosed while outdoors.  This pet enclosure is ideal for up to three cats and small dogs, 35 pounds and under – the same types of pets that are generally the target of coyote attacks.

@Lunachique ‘s furbabies!

Andrea’s furbabies include Ariel, Aurora and Bond

Andrea is one of our Twitter Friends enjoys tweeting about current events, pets and just for fun!  Andrea loves to play Twitter Contests and recently won our $15.00 CatToys.com gift certificate Summer Fun Contest by Direct Mailing us that CATS IN NEED is her favorite Animal Rescue…. after reading about her furballs, one can see why :<)  xoxoxo

Here is what Andrea writes about her Kritter Litter.

We got Aurora first.  She was five weeks old.  She was adopted from a dog trainer at Pet Smart!  If I had to do it all over again I would have waited longer before bringing her home because she has behavior and hygiene issues now.  She’s not very nice, but she’s smart and does tricks so I love her very much.  We got Ariel next because Aurora was quite a handful when she got to be about twelve weeks old.  She was biting and being mean!  Ariel mellowed her out for the most part because she is one of the sweetest most gentle cats ever.   She’s my heart!  She was originally supposed to have been my husband’s cat, but when they put her in his arms, she headbutted me when they took the adoption picture of us!  Ariel was adopted from Cats in Need, Yorba Linda!  Bond came from the Westminster Petco.  He was supposed to have been a dog, but we got a doglike cat instead.  He is beautiful!  He was hanging in a little hammock when we came to bring him home.  His brother had chewed off all of his whiskers!  Now his whiskers are probably about four or five inches long.  He was named after James Bond because of his huge gold eyes and snazzy tuxedo coat!

Wednesday at the Kritter Kommunity

Today was a pretty nommy day… what does nommy mean? (please leave me a comment with your interpertation!)
Anyhow, I had a lot of fun today, mostly because my mama brought home a Rotissiere Chicken and cut up a whole bunch for me and Abi. It was delicious!!! Warm, juicy and tasty. After I ate , I followed my mama on her heels to the puter where she set me up for some tweeting. I always love to tweet with my friends on Twitter. It was a little quiet tonight but I was glad I got on because I was able to say Happy Birfday to @HanktheDoggy who was celebrating up a storm.    Hank is an adorable English Setter named after Hank Williams.  He is a real cutie.

Hank

ADORABLE!

@DrugstorCowboy gave me a big shout out and that always makes me purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….

DrugStorIcon3_biggerCool Dude

After I was done tweeting I ran upstairs and grabbed my mousie toy and tossed it down the steps.  Then I went running down after it and tossed it around for a little bit.  I like to meow like a lion in between tosses, it makes me feel super masculine.

Exhausted from playing, I collapsed on the floor………. but then suddenly heard noises.  I heard a drawer open (oh my favorite thing; an open drawer!) and went running to see what was going on.  To my surprise, my mommy had made me a special little bed in a drawer with my cozy KOZY. I almost fell over with purrrs.  ALL THIS FUR ME!?

P1030336This is ALL MINE!

My mommy was trying to pick me up and put me in my new bed, but she didn’t have to worry.  I quick hopped right in and started kneading myself a spot.  I still can’t believe this wonderful patch of soft, warm heaven is all MINE!

P1030335I have ARRIVED!

I am so excited to be curling up in here while my mommy watches TV.   I can stare at her and still be relaxing in my new bed. It is just purrrrfect!  Time to go back and get cozy in my KOZY!

What is that you say???   I have no idea who Abi is….

*** Interview with Waggy’s ***

Interview with Waggy’s

January 15, 2010

Hosted by:  Madi, The Cat

Kritters That Twitter

http://www.waggysecopetproducts.com/

http://www.waggysecopetproducts.com/

MADI: Hi Waggy’s, and thanks for coming down to the Kritter Koffeehouse today to chat it up with me.  It is fun to have a Linked In friend come down and see us!  Waggy, this is a great opportunity for my furry friends and their parents to get to know you better.  Let’s start off by talking about your very charming name; what exactly does it stand for and what is the history?

WAGGY’S: Hi Madi.  First of all, I’d like to thank you for having me here today.  I’m very excited to talk to you and your followers.  The name Waggy’s came from my name.  My last name is Wagner and when I wanted to open my own pet sitting business, there was no question that it would be called Waggy’s Pet Sitting.  Also, years before my business, our email address already had Waggy in it, so it was fate.  Thank you, I’m always up for new challenges and just kind of decided that I wanted to open an online store. When I was searching the internet for products, it was evident that I was attracted to natural, eco friendly products, however not all of my products are eco friendly.

I also noticed that I was draw to small, mom and pop businesses that were trying to make their way in the world.  I truly believe that small businesses are the cornerstone of this country and think we should stick together.  In that same vein, I decided to only offer products that are entirely made in the USA.

We offer leashes, collars, hand painted bowls, treat jars and urns, dog clothes, treats, cat and dog toys, all kinds of grooming products, aromatherapy/essential oils, dog and cat eco beds and more.

I dedicated Waggy’s Eco Pet Products to my father.  He was from a small town in Southern Italy (tip of the boot) and was recycling long before it became fashionable.  He always tried to fix something before going to buy something new.  A lot of it stemmed from meager beginnings and not wanting to be wasteful.  All of that has definitely rubbed off on me.  My husband calls me Vincentio after my father when I’m trying to fix something beyond repair.

Two of my favorite items right now are the Hurley dog toy and a hands free leash.  Not only has the Hurley been around the house for the dogs to play with for a long time, and it still look new, but they float!  In the Summer, I throw them in the pool and the dogs have a great time fetching them.

Another product is the hands free leash.  It’s comfortable and it’s like you’re not even walking a dog.  The waistband has a place to put your phone, doggie bags  or money.  However, if your a smaller person and have a huge dog that pulls, this may not be for you.  I’m 5’8″ and can walk more than one dog on this leash with comfort and when it’s cold, both hands can be in my pockets!

MADI: Do you spend most of your time working at your store or pet sitting?

WAGGY’S: During the busy times for pet sitting, I probably spend more time with the dogs.  We just ended the Christmas/New Year’s season.  I board dogs in my home and have sitters that work for me, so the bulk of my time is tending to the business.  It’s hard to spend time on the computer when you have those cute faces looking at you for attention.  Luckily, I live across the street from a dog park, so it makes it easy to give them lots of exercise.  The time I spend on the store is mostly social media and blogging which is very new to me and there’s a lot to learn!  My favorite times are snuggling with the dogs – I’m a big nurturer.

MADI: When you pet sit, are you usually taking care of cats or dogs or is it an equal mix?

CIMG0463

WAGGY’S: Dogs for sure, Waggy’s specializes in boarding in a private family home.  We do go to the client’s homes especially for cats, but it’s not the main stay of our business.  My clients love knowing that their dogs are staying with a family cage free.  It greatly reduces their stress while they’re away and that’s what it’s all about!

I have to tell you Madi that I was originally only a dog person, but since I’ve been pet sitting, I’ve grown to really like cats and might even consider having one in the future.

Madi: Oh that is good!  Felines are quite different and more superior than dogs *paw over mouth* oops, did I say that out loud???  I didn’t mean it, I have lots of doggy friends especially on Twitter.  Hee hee, I like to tease.  But in all seriousness, we own you…… it just is what it is……

Besides your websites, do you use other Social Media channels like Facebook or Twitter?    Blog?

WAGGY’S: Yes, I just started blogging which has been a big hurdle for me to get over.  I’m not really a writer, but I try to bring good information that I think pet lovers will find useful.  I blog about pet info, my products and about the pet sitting business.  It’s a mixed bag, but it’s all about the pets!  I ‘m also on Twitter, and have a Fanpage for my store for updates on products, pet info and specials.  I finally am getting the hang of this social media world.  I’d love to have new friends to get to know.  If you like, you can follow me on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/chrislwagner, join my Fan Page at http://www.facebook.com/waggyspetproducts, or read my blog at http://www.waggyspettipsandtales.  I’d love to see pictures of your pets and comments.

MADI: Waggy, do you have pets of your own?  If yes, tell us about them.

WAGGY’S: I did have a Cocker Spaniel named Nikki, however she died in August of 2009.  She was almost 16 years old.  I often call her my first born because we got her before my first son was born.  She was the greatest dog in the world and we all miss her presence around the house.  She was feisty, beautiful and fun.  Whenever I had a consultation with a new client and their dog, she would chase them around to show them who’s boss.  I had Rotts and German Shepherds that would be afraid of her and walk the other way when she was around.  She really ruled the roost around here!  But as time went on, she lost a lot of that vigor.  I hope he’s waiting for me by the Rainbow Bridge.

Nikki with Pacifier

MADI: Oh no!  I am sorry to hear about Nikki and I have no doubt she is waiting for your by the Rainbow Bridge…. tail a wagging and everything!

Well Waggy’s,  I have taken up a great deal of your time and I just want to say thank you so very very much for interviewing with me.  It has been a lot of fun getting to know you better.  It has been great fun learning more about you and the businesses you manage.  Thank you again!!!

WAGGY’S: Thanks again Madi.  It’s been so fun taking with you and look forward to hearing from you and meeting new friends.

Me, Maui

MADI: Hi Maui, and thanks for coming down to the Kritter Koffeehouse today to chat it up with me.

So Maui, I know you from Twitter….. as @luv_mydachshund.  Thank Cat for Twitter and all the wonderful animals I have had a chance to get to know.  With only 140 words per tweet though, it is amazing how tweeps might know about each other!  This is an opportunity for the other Kritters that Twitter to get to know you better.

Before we get started, would you care for a toy to nom on from our toy basket, or maybe a fresh bowl of water?

MADI: So tell me about yourself…… where do you live?  Do you have any sisters and brothers?  Are you in your forever home and if so how did you get there?

MAUI: My name is Maui but my parents sometimes call me Mauita Maria and I’m a mini dachshund. I just turned one years old back in November. I found my forever home almost a year ago and so happy!  I have one brother, Toby, and one sister, Sophie, who are both mini dachshunds too! Everyone always asks us if we are all really related but we are not. I love my brother and sister very much though but I’m the baby of the family and I get ALL of the attention and my way all the time!

My Sister, Brother & Me

We just recently moved from Las Vegas, NV to Tacoma, WA and it was a very long drive for me.  I enjoyed the car ride but I couldn’t wait to be able to run free.

Long drive from NV to WA, we were navigators.(2)

I love running in the backyard we have now and it is much cooler here in WA for me.

MADI: Oh MY!  Your brother and sister are ADORABLE too!  What cutie pies.  I understand about wanting to be outside.  We use an Outdoor Pet Enclosure at home and even when we travel because it is collapsible.  But when we go to see the vet mama puts us in a carrying case that works great for the short drive.  Your yard sounds fantastic; you must love to run, run, run, run!  You guys must want to collapse in a nice comfy bed when you are finished running!

So Maui, When did you start to Twitter and how do you like it?  My sister Abi and I see you on Twitter regularly.  What do you like most about Twitter and how often do you like to tweet?  Do your siblings tweet too?

MAUI: I started a few days after I turned one years old in November. I thought I was finally old enough to start tweeting and I kept hearing people talk about it. I love being on twitter and have met so many wonderful people through tweeting. I love how you can find out news, new products (The Kritter Kondo) and chit chat with people around the world on there. I sometimes let my siblings tweet but I like it the most! I’m always on there and they sometimes bother me to get off and play with them as they don’t understand how much fun it can be!

MADI: Are you on Facebook or My Space or do you have a Blog you would like to share with us?

MAUI: Since I’m so little I’m starting small and learning my way with all these cool places to connect with others…I’m looking into starting a blog but haven’t started yet, I’ve enjoyed reading others so far and have sooooo much to learn! You know, I should start a Facebook & MySpace page too because I could meet even more cool friends that way and I’m always hearing about those places too!

MADI: Well, you know if you ever need help with a Blog our friend Mike over at PetWebDesign can help you out.

So when you are not using Twitter and Social Media what other things do you like to do?  Any favorite toys you have?

MAUI: I love to sleep and need my naps or I get cranky. I love to get all curled up inside blankets and pillows while I sleep so I can be all warm.

Maui in Warm Blankie

Also since moving to WA I love running laps around the big tree in the backyard but I’m still learning to adjust to all the rain here. I don’t like to get my paws wet and mommy and daddy make me go outside even though I don’t want to! I’m so lucky to have moved to WA though because now I get to see my grandma & grandpa all the time too and they bring me treats and toys. I love toys very much but I love to chew them up and sometimes my brother and sister take them away from me too. Mommy and daddy have to buy 3 of everything, hehehehe.

MADI: Maui, tell me about some of your favorite toys; I see in this picture you have a cute little frog you are nomming on.   Is this your favorite to?  What is his name?

MAUI: Oh, yes, that is my new toy and I LOVE it! It is a froggie that mommy puts on her hand but she doesn’t let me play with it that much because I want to chew it up! It’s name is froggie and mommy got it in the mail from a friend.

willie_2086_71243307

MADI: Well Maui,  I have taken up a great deal of your time and I just want to say thank you so very very much for interviewing with me.  It has been a lot of fun getting to know you better.  I love tweeting with you and am so glad to be one of your Followers!  Please take this delicious Coffee and Chocolate home for your Mommy to thank her for letting you come over today.  *nosetaps*

MAUI: Twank you so much! I’m glad I was able to share more about me instead of just in 140 characters. That can be so difficult sometimes. It was my pleasure and one day I hope my mommy and daddy will get me one the great Kritter Kondos.

MADI: Hi Honey!!  Thanks so much for agreeing to do an interview wiff me.  I am so excited abouts this one cuz I know you from Twitter and all…. purrrrrr.  Before we get started, would you like a bowl of water or a toy to nom on?

HONEY: Hello, Madi, it’s a pleasure to be here.  Thank you for having me.  I would love a bowl of water while we talk.

MADI: So firstly Honey, tell me a bits about yourself…. Where do you live?  How long have you lived dere…. How old are you?

HONEY: I live in Ames, Iowa, and I’ve lived here for a little over three years. I turned eight in the summer.  Previously, Mummy and I lived in Scotland.  When Mummy decided to move back to the U.S. I flew on an airplane.  I had my own big carrier, and they put me in the luggage hold.  It was pretty darned noisy, and I was scared because Mummy wasn’t there, but I made it okay.  I hope I never have to fly again!

MADI: Scotland!!! Wow , that was very brave of you to fly on a big bird.  Your carrier sounds very comfortable.  Honey, tell me about your home, your Mama……  is she your first home?  Is she your forever home?   How did she find you?

HONEY: Mummy is not my first home, but we don’t discuss “the time before.” However, she is definitely my forever home because I am lost without her.  Mummy found me at the shelter in Scotland.  I had been there about a week.  I saw her looking at all of the other kitties and crying because she couldn’t pick which one to take home. I really wanted to leave and thought she looked quite nice so I kept hitting my head against the glass so she would notice me.  It worked! She picked me!

MADI: What does your Mama like to do when she is not giving you scratchies and tending to your every need?  Or do you keep her pretty busy with the priorities in life?

HONEY: Mummy stays pretty busy with her job, her studies and trying to control all of the fur I shed.  I make sure I get it in every room equally.  I also try to get her to carry me around the apartment a lot.  I love riding on her shoulder.  Now that it’s cold, I like to try to get into the dryer in the morning before she warms her clothes up.  (I know I should just wait until after, but I like to race Mummy in the morning.) Some mornings we argue, but I always win in the end because I get to spend the day sleeping in the dryer on my blanket.  Mummy also likes to do craft projects like sewing.  I like to sit on her lap while she’s using the machine.

MADI: My sister Abi and I see you on Twitter regularly.  What do you like most about Twitter and how often do you like to tweet?

HONEY: Oh, I leave the tweeting to Mummy.  She’s tweeting most every day and sometimes I like to pose for photos for her to post at Twitpic.  I think Twitter has been good for Mummy since she hates dealing with people face-to-face.  This way she can chat and not have to be in social situations.  In addition to Twitter, I frequently visit some cat-oriented sites like I Can Haz Cheeseburger? and catsinsinks.com.  I really hope to be featured at one of those sites someday, but for now, I will have to settle for being one of the elite cats at lookatthiscat.com.  I am numbers 305 and 306.

http://lookatthiscat.com/305

http://lookatthiscat.com/306

MADI: What are some things about Twitter that furry-ustrate you?  Anything dat you just wish you could change?

HONEY: I guess it’s not Twitter itself that frustrates me, but the size of the keyboards the humans use. Typing on one of those things is really hard.  They also don’t make any drool-proof ones, and Mummy gets mad at me sometimes when I drool on her laptop.

MADI: Well Honey, I have taken up a great deal of your time and I just want to say thank you so very very much for interviewing wiff me.   We are so glad to know you from Twitter and now to know even more about you!!!

HONEY: Thank you, Madi.  I am gonna go hang out in my Kritter Kondo now!! XOXOXOXO

Interview with My3Cats

December 15th, 2009

Hosted by:  Madi, The Cat

Kritters That Twitter

MADI: Hello, and thanks for meeting me at the Kritter Koffeehouse.  I am very excited to be speaking with you today and greatly appreciate your time.  Before we get started, I just want to point out that just like everything associated with the Kritter Kommunity, Kritters That Twitter is specifically designed for Animals and Animal Lovers.   The Kritter Koffeehouse is open daily and serves beverages and snacks for both Animals and Hoomans.  That being said, I see you are an Animal…..could I offer you a bowl of milk or water?  Some Catnip before we get started?

MY3CATS:   Thanks, Mr. Madi.    My name is Bogey, I’m the official spokes-purrson of MyThreeCats.com.   I’m so glad to be here!   I already have a lot of fresh catnip, but thanks for the offer.

MADI: Lets jump in and get started; we are eager to learn more about you!  Firstly, what exactly is My3Cats?

MY3CATS:  MyThreeCats.com is an internet based retailer of quality, innovative cat accessories and products for cats like me, and also unique gifts and accessories for cat lovers.  Can you believe we carry some great cat furniture called Cat Clouds where cats can exercise and literally “catapult” through the air?    We’re especially proud of our wide selection of cat furniture; cat toys; scratching and behavior products; beds;collars; litter boxes and many other great iteMr.  We’re really getting into “green” as well.  Mom is trying to select green products for the well being of our cat customers and for the environment, like our Eco-friendly cat furniture and cat beds.

My Mom’s name is Carolyn.   She’s a co-owner of MyThreeCats.com and has been in business for 11 years.    We started out as a retail shop based in Pittsburgh, PA called My Three Cats & Co., Inc.   I started the very first day at the shop with Mom, where I became very popular.     A few years later, I decided to continue my role as Spokes-purrson at MyThreeCats.com.   I get a lot of fan mail.    For more information, go to Ask Bogey or About Us on our website.

MADI: How did you come up with the name My3Cats?  Do you have pets?

MY3Cats:   Over the years, many cats have proudly owned my Mom, but she now has 3 cats, and I’m one of them.    She created the name My Three Cats since there are many multiple cat households today and they can easily identify with our name.  She always liked the name of the vintage TV program, My Three Sons, so that’s how we became MyThreeCats.com!

MADI: Tell us about how you currently use social media…. Facebook, Twitter, Blogs

MY3Cats:  Well, Mr. Madi, we use all three, including our very own Youtube site where we have lots of favorite cat videos posted.

You should really check out our blog,    BogeysBlogSphere

Our customers can also access the blog through our home page at www.MyThreeCats.com.    We have some of the best quality cat stories and educational articles on cat care on the internet.  Great cartoons and videos, too.  If you like to participate in polls, check out our poll page.   Sometimes, we have fun contests, like our recent cat photo contest in October.  Readers should book mark us to see what’s new!

We’re also on Facebook, under Carolyn Luna, and on Twitter under Bogeythecat, where we post some really interesting cat stuff and have made many friends around the world.

Finally, you can see our cool rotating ads on Catchannel.com on the product and breed pages of that site.

You can find us and our great products at www.MyThreeCats.com.

holiday_cat

MADI: My sister Abi and I see you on Facebook regularly.  What do you like most about Facebook and how do you find it valuable?

MY 3 CATS:  We like chatting with the many, many cat lovers from all over the world, and love to explore their pages as well.  It’s just a great community of people with a common interest, we all love cats!  I especially enjoy seeing the cat pictures they share.  We’re always interested in hearing from our readers about how they like our products and any cool new products they want to share.

MADI: We at Kritters That Twitter want to make sure we offer solutions and add value to the lives of Animals and Animal Lovers through our blog.   This interview was extremely helpful in providing animals a fun place to shop for specialty items.

MY3CATS:  Mom and I are thrilled to be interviewed by you, Mr. Madi.  We really like Kwitters that Twitter and will be sure to tell our cat loving customers about you!!!

MADI: Wow, this was such useful information, and most importantly it has been a pleasure kicking back and getting to know you better.  Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to chat with me and other Kwitters!!!

MADI: Hi Petie!!  Thanks so much for agreeing to do an interview with me.  I am so excited about this one because I have known you fur a while now.   I want to say that I will be asking you some very obvious questions about yourself that I already know the answers to…….…. But please remember that there are some anipals on Twitter who do not know you yet and will be so excited to gets to know you better.  Petie, would you like a toy to nom on while we chat?  You can nom on one of our Koffehouse duckies if you’d like. There you go…. now that you are nice an comfortable, how about a bowl of milk or water to sip on throughout our interview?

PETIE: Oh i would loves to have some nice fresh water, thank you so very much

MADI: Great, here is a bowl of water we can wet our whistle with while we talk.  So firstly Petie, tell me a bits about yourself…. Where do you live?  How long have you lived there…. How old are you?  I hear you had a recent birfday…… anything you care to share about how your birfday was?

PETIE: I live in Winnipeg, Canada and I have been here for about 13 years. Before this I lived on a farm for the first 18 months of my life.  I just turned 15 years old on December 4.   The day before my birthday all of my friends on Twitter had a surprise birthday party for me.  It was so much fun… @Boomiethecat had invited me to attend a Bloo Jay party. Then when I came to the party at the scheduled time everyone say “Surprise’  Happy Birthday to me.  It was the best day of my life.  So much fun with all of my dear friends on Twitter.

petie-bdaytwibbon-lg

MADI: Aw, that must have been such a nice surprise for you.  I know you had such a good time.   Now Petie, tell me about your home, your Mama and Papa and how did you all find each other?  Is where you live now your forever home?

PETIE:  I have lived here with mama and daddy since i was 18 months old.  My mama had lost her other cat 6 months before and missed kittehs so much, so she used to volunteer every day at the Humane Society of Winnipeg.  That is where she found me.  I was such a big kitteh that i was in a cage all by myself.  The people there said that I was such a sociable cat that they used to let me out of my cage early so I could visit with other kittehs at the location.  (I was at a sattelite location in a mall) , One day mama came and i had been adopted, mama was so happy that I had found a home.  then a few days later mama came back and there i was back again.  As it turned out, the people could not keep me.  This made mama sad.  Then about three weeks later mama came and again I had been adopted out.  Again mama was so happy.  Then a week later she found that again i was back.  This person that had adopted me had sudden family issues, had to move and was not allowed to take kittehs with her.  At this point I was so depressed I would not even lift my little head, or eat or drink.  All the staff at the shelter were so worried about me.  Mama decided then and there that she was taking me home.  And from that day forward I had my forever home with Mama and Daddy.  It has been a great life with my Mama and Daddy.  I am an only kitteh and get so very much love and attention from them.  They take such good care of me and give me so much love.

MADI: That is such a sweet story.  You are so lucky your Mama kept going back to check on you; but I also know she feels so fortunate to have been the one to ultimately adopt you forever.  Petie……. this next topic is very hard fur me to bring up, but one we need to discuss……. there has been a lot of tweeting and chatter among the anipals on Twitter about some health issues you have been challenged with.  How is that all going fur you now?  Can you tell us how you are doing these days, elaborate on your treatment etc….

PETIE: Oh yes, this is very sad for me to talk about.  Mama noticed that i was losing a lot of weight and drinking so very much water all of a sudden.  She and daddy take me to the vet doctor.  They did all kinds of horrid tests on me and found out that I have stage 2 renal failure.  The vet does say that this means that I only have 33% kidney function.  I now have to take 2 different medications, one is for my kidneys and the other is a probiotic to stimulate my appetite and provide a supplement to me.  I can only now eat prescription foods and this has to be carefully measured so I do not get too much proteins in my diet.  We had to go through 4 different foods before mama found one that i would eat.  As we were trying this out I lost 2 more pounds.   I used to weigh 21 pounds and now I only weigh 9 pounds.   The medicine has seemed to help me in that I drink a lot less now, am less agitated than I was.  I am also eating better now.  I have not gained any weight back yet and mama hopes that soon this will happen too.  The vet man says that in the new year I may have to take fluids under my skin to prevent dehydration. The vet man does not give any false hopes to us, but says that with proper diet and the medicines I can have still some good quality of life.   This whole thing has been so very hard on my mama and daddy.  I know they are very sad, but they try hard not to show it so as to keep me positive. We do try to be positive because Mama beleives so very much in positive energy and the power of healing.

MADI: Aw, I know how sick you have been feeling, I hope that the medicine is working out for you and that things continue to get better.

My sister Abi and I see you on Twitter regularly.  What do you like most about Twitter and how often do you like to tweet?

PETIE: I love Twitter because I have made so many good friends there.  Everyone is so kind to me.  It is fun to tweet and learn about what all the anipals are doing, where they live and what everyone does.  It is fun too, to learn about different cultures.. such as now at the Holiday Season we are learning about Channuka.   It is also a wonderful place where all anipals can support each other if there are friends going through hard times or illness.  We love to attend the pawpawties every month, as it is an opportunity for us anipals to raise money for less fortunate animals that have not found their forever homes yet.   I like to tweet daily and check in and see how all my friends are doing.

MADI: What are some things about Twitter that furry-ustrate you?  Anything dat you just wish you could change?

PETIE:  Well i do not like it when the nekkid bad bots follow me because it is gross and hurts my eyes.  It also hurts me to see when some anipals don’t get along so well and feelings are hurt.

MADI: Well Petie,  I have taken up a great deal of your time and I just want to say thank you so very very much for interviewing with me.  It is a great honor and privilege to sit down with you and share a bowl of water while we nom Duckies and chatter.  You have been on the Twitter journey with us since we started tweeting and its anipals like you that keep us coming backs….. XOXOXOXO

PETIE:: Thank you so much for interviewing me Madi;  you have been a great host and it has been so much fun doing this interview with you.
