Job Description

Position Summary: Responsible for overseeing the general vision, direction and all aspects of Best Friend's NMHPLA office as initiated through the Community Programs and Services Division.  This includes, but is not limited to the strategic planning and budgeting process, human resources and personnel, statistical and data collection and assessment, development, programming, advertising, marketing, public relations and promotion, and community affairs.  Responsible for effective administration of the program, meeting stated goals, staying within budget and ensuring human resources and appropriate functions are in compliance with local and federal guidelines.
Essential Duties:

Organizational

• Works across organizational lines to coordinate and develop long term and annual strategic planning process as directed and as it relates to the Los Angeles programs.

• Works within Senior Managers and the CPS Director to develop and execute project plans, status reports, and comprehensive documentation as it relates to the Los Angeles programs.

• Monitors overall budget for Los Angeles programs; enables and empowers Los Angeles staff to oversee their specific budgets. Makes modifications as needed.

• Responsible for supervising, creating, approving and reviewing benchmarks and progress with Los Angeles personnel to ensure adherence to the program’s strategic plan and goals.

• Estimates the resources and participants needed to achieve program goals.

• Provides staff with systems of accountability.  Empowers staff to achieve goals, hold staff accountable and provides a monthly reporting system of determining measurable successes within each campaign.

• Conducts regular meetings with staff and other stakeholders to oversee assigned activities.

• Representing Best Friends at national, regional and state events and conferences including public speaking and making presentations on a variety of topics related to nonprofit management and animal welfare.

Coalition

• Identifies and cultivates new relationships with animal welfare and rescue community, city planners, BF members, volunteers, supporters to work toward No More Homeless Pets

• Oversees the steering committee that gives overall direction and goals to the NMHP LA movement.

• Oversees the strategy and budget for funding the NMHPLA coalition effort.  This includes but is not limited to increasing adoptions and spay/neuter within the city.

• Oversees the accountability for financial resources working to achieve the goals as laid out by the steering committee.

• Oversees the staff focused on increasing spay/neuter and adoptions within Los Angeles.

• Monitors trends in animal welfare field, including legislative arena, and advises on positioning, messaging and programming.

• Consulting with grassroots humane organizations and individual animal advocates, providing practical advice and assistance. Facilitate greater community involvement in achieving NMHPLA through overseeing a steering committee and utilizing volunteers to drive successful programs.

• Critically analyze data to better direct resources to more efficiently achieve NMHPLA.

High Volume Spay/Neuter Clinic

• Oversee the smooth functioning of the high-volume spay/neuter clinic.  This includes having the clinic work at capacity, within budget with minimal complications.

• Ensure that the clinic is attracting clients from the targeted demographic.

• Ensure that the clinic follows all policies and procedures accepted by LAAS

• Ensure that the clinic is providing quality veterinary care when necessary to the animals being housed at the adoption center.

• Ensure that the clinic meets all standards established by the California Veterinary Medical Association.

Adoption Center

• Ensure that the adoption center is operating within the budget, meeting the adoption goals, providing good customer service and quality animal care.

• Ensure that volunteers are being utilized effectively at the adoption center to maximize the number of adoptions, reduce staffing costs, provide excellent care for the animals and a positive experience for the public.

• Ensure that the clinic follows all policies and procedures accepted by LAAS for utilization of the facility.

• Develop out foster programs and off-site adoption programs to increase the number of animals adopted.

• Make recommendations on ways the adoption center can be utilized to help more shelter animals

Other

• Oversee the events team and help to determine ways to improve their success to continue to achieve NMHP LA

• Oversee a communications team to maximize PR opportunities as well as successful marketing and promotions of the programs.

• Build out volunteer program to better support existing programs and events.

• Work with the development team to cultivate fundraising opportunities in Los Angeles.

The Regional HR Manager role (internal to Banfield this position is often referred to as the Regional Co-Pilot) provides leadership, mentorship, HR expertise and coaching to field leadership and hospital associates as well as having direct management responsibility for a team of Field Trainers within the assigned territory.  Field leadership includes Field Directors, Medical Directors, and hospital Practice Managers.  The Regional HR Manager role also will advise and counsel members of hospital teams comprised of Veterinary Technicians, Assistants, and Client Service Coordinators. 

The primary objective for the Regional HR Manager is to lead the implementation of HR strategies, provide expert counsel to Field Leadership and hospital teams for Mars Signature Processes, and ensure the growth and continuation of a culture of excellence.   This role is responsible to provide effective HR leadership in support of Banfield's three pillars of focus – client experience, preventive care and associate engagement – to drive the practice to be the leading provider of general practice veterinary services.

Working with the Regional Vice President of the Region and as a matrix part of the Field Leadership Team, The Regional HR Manager will have HR responsibility to cover between 6 to10 markets and approximately a hundred hospitals across a multi-state area and act as a line manager to the Field Trainers assigned to this region.
